Mads Hermansen is 'improving on a daily basis', says Ruud van Nistelrooy
The Leicester City Manager is unable to say when the Dane will return to action
Van Nistelrooy is 'confident' his absence will be in the short term
Jamie Vardy will also be assessed before Boxing Day's visit to Liverpool
Goalkeeper Hermansen was withdrawn at half-time during the defeat at Newcastle United earlier this month and also missed last weekend’s reverse to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Foxes are next in action on Boxing Day, taking on Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield (8pm GMT kick-off). Although Ruud van Nistelrooy is confident that the Dane’s absence will be a short one, the Manager is not yet able to provide a guarantee on when he will next feature. Danny Ward has been selected since Hermansen’s injury, with Jakub Stolarczyk building back towards full fitness after missing the whole of the 2024/25 campaign so far. “It’s about his development and how he improves on a daily basis,” van Nistelrooy told the media on Christmas Eve. “He is improving on a daily basis. We want him fit, but of course, you can’t rush these things. We will see when he’s 100 per cent fit to perform for the team and I’m confident it will be in the short term, but I don’t know when.
“We’re assessing him obviously every day. Jak [Stolarczyk] is one that has been back and playing for the Under-21s, got his first game under his belt, and we’ll make decisions in the coming days.”
Vardy, on the other hand, will also be assessed ahead of Boxing Day’s visit to Merseyside, after picking up ‘some knocks’ against Wolves on Sunday. “We have to address Jamie,” van Nistelrooy added. “He picked up some knocks. We have to address him today and tomorrow to see if he’s ready for Thursday. Hopefully he will be fine, if not, it’ll be a short-term issue.”
