  • City Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy says efficiency in box boxes was the difference
A tough night at the office for the Foxes, Rasmus Højlund netted the opener at King Power Stadium, prior to Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes making the points safe in the second half.
Van Nistelrooy’s men had opportunities in the contest, through Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka and latterly substitute Facundo Buonanotte, but to no avail, leading to a sixth straight league defeat.
“In the end, the score says it all,” the Dutchman stated at full-time on Sunday. “In between boxes there was not much between us, it was the same. I think the efficiency in finishing chances and defending key moments was the difference today.

“I also thought we were unlucky not to score. We had a few opportunities where we could have scored; should have scored, but the momentum that we’re in now, it’s not falling our way.”
Remaining 19th in the Premier League table, just nine games remain this term with a nine-point gap developing in the fight for survival. A tough run of results is not easy to take, but there will be no let up in the hard work in Seagrave.
The 48-year-old continued: “The players are trying, they are doing everything that they can and investing in the training sessions, working hard, but results are not there and that’s hard week in, week out. We’re in a similar situation to Ipswich and Southampton. The three promoted sides don’t have a lot of results.
“We have to keep getting up and believing in our work and try our best every game. The gap is big, it’s nine points, we know that, and the players were very disappointed in the dressing room, but we can’t give up. That is clear too.

“Game by game we want to show what we’re capable of. As long as it is still possible mathematically, we can’t give up hope and we won’t.”
An international break on the horizon, it’s a trip to Etihad Stadium up next for Leicester in April, with Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool to follow, all sides currently positioned in the top seven.
“It’s clear, the programme,” he added. “Manchester City and the games after are tough but that’s the Premier League. Players go on international duty now, hopefully come back fit and fresh and with the other players here, we are going to train for the City game.”
