Leicester City in the Community wraps up Walkers RePlay World Cup Leagues in New Parks
Finals took place on Wednesday 20 May at the RePlay pitch
Women’s only and mixed 30+ leagues brought together local players from February to May
RePlay Champions have been selected to represent Leicester at the FIFA World Cup in New York
After months of weekly fixtures, community activities and memorable moments, the Walkers RePlay World Cup five-a-side leagues reached an exciting conclusion at the end of May as teams competed in the finals on the Leicester RePlay pitch in New Parks, Leicester.
Hosted by Leicester City in the Community as part of the global Walkers RePlay campaign, the leagues have provided free opportunities for local people to come together through football in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup 2026.
From February through to May, participants took part in women’s only and mixed 30+ competitions, with matches played in a World Cup format which focused not only on results on the pitch, but also on positive community values off it.
Across both leagues, players demonstrated leadership, teamwork, encouragement and reliability, helping to create an atmosphere that reflected the true spirit of the game.
The RePlay pitch in New Parks, created using upcycled crisp packets, has provided a vibrant and sustainable space for the community throughout the competition, hosting hundreds of players and showcasing the power of football to bring people together.
The Finals evening marked the culmination of months of dedication and commitment from players, coaches and volunteers, with friends, families and members of the local community coming together to celebrate the achievements of everyone involved.
As part of the programme, eight participants have been selected as official RePlay Champions. Chosen for the positive impact they have made both on and off the pitch, they will go on to represent Leicester and the wider UK at the FIFA World Cup in New York this summer as RePlay Ambassadors.
Vandy Rodgers, a participant of the RePlay World Cup League, shared his experience: “The league has left a lasting impression on everyone involved. You could see it in the Finals. The hunger is there, and most of the teams are already desperate to come back and compete for the trophy next time around.
“The legacy is also in the atmosphere it created, having family members come down to watch and support gave it a proper community feel, which you just don't get with your normal Thursday night five a side. I have been selected to go to New York, and it is a dream come true to watch England in a World Cup thanks to Walkers.”
Leicester City in the Community would like to thank everyone who took part in the leagues and helped make the competition such a success, with hopes that the legacy of the programme will continue to inspire local communities long after the final whistle.
