Against a side that Leicester have already beaten this term; Walton Hall Park provides the Foxes with their first chance to record back-to-back wins in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Prior to another tough encounter in the top division, the Manager spoke with the media at Belvoir Drive and below are the main talking points…
‘We must stay focused’
Celebrating a home win against Liverpool.
Returning to King Power Stadium for the first time in a month last weekend, goals from Janice Cayman and Yuka Momiki guided us to victory over Liverpool. Putting some distance between Leicester and bottom-placed Crystal Palace in the table has given confidence to the squad, which Miquel hopes will continue to show in the second half of the season. “Slowly, we are not there yet, and we must stay focused,” she stated. “But again I’m going to focus on the mental aspects and say they are going a lot better.
“Since December that has improved, and players are starting to understand what we want. We are not perfect and we make mistakes, but we have to fight and make sure we compete in every game.
“We want to be a hard team to play against, and that continues this weekend.”
‘Improve on both aspects’
A first goal for Janice Cayman this term.
Scoring only three times in the league ahead of the Liverpool triumph, City have relied on their defensive stability to earn points, but after the last matchday, a prowess in front of goal shone through.
The former Stade de Reims Manager hopes to keep this form going, but does not want to lose sight of their overall gameplan.
“Yes, we’d like to improve our offensive stats, but we want to keep the defensive stats as well,” Miquel continued. “There is not a priority of one being more important than the other.
“We want to improve the offensive aspect without destroying what we’ve built defensively so it will be a slow process, but we have to build, and sometimes that takes time.”
‘Not focusing on the table’
Taking one game at a time.
It’s easy to get distracted by the table; celebrating three points and fearing defeat, but with each passing game, the French Manager is learning more about her side, and in turn, they are showing a better understanding of her philosophy.
Aiming for improvement in each game, she does not see individual matches as chances for wins but would love to leave Merseyside with a third win in hand.
Miquel added: “I’m not looking at the table, because it was only the last game that we started to see where we are. I’m not the type of person that aims for specific games.
“You can get points in places where people think you can’t get them and lose in others that everyone thinks you should get them.
“It’s about getting a few more wins and if that includes this weekend then good, but if it’s not, then we will get them somewhere else.”
