Leicester head into the winter break on a high, after recording their best-ever result against the current WSL champions, holding the Blues to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon. Putting in a proud performance in front of the Foxes faithful, the Manager stated that this was always the most important thing to achieve from the game.
"The intention of the game today was to fight hard," Miquel told the media. "We told them (the players) that we are playing a good team and no matter what happens, we want to go home tonight being proud of ourselves, knowing that we did our maximum, which is the case today. Missy Goodwin put Leicester in front on Filbert Way.
"We didn't win today but we had the win for a long time, but not long enough sadly. But we did well to keep the 1-0 for as long as we could.
"We knew that when they scored one it would get harder, so we had to keep this advantage as much as we could. Eventually they scored, and then it was just about saving the goal and keeping that point.
"When they went so aggressive in their forward play at the end, it was going to be about mentality and it wasn't going to be nice but we needed to keep the ball away from the goal as much as we could.
"We're very proud; it's all about the mentality and the fighting. We wanted to have no regrets whatever happened and a point for us makes more of a difference to us than it will Chelsea."
Named on the bench, young winger Missy Goodwin made a big impact, replaced Deanne Rose after 10 minutes, scoring not long after. Another positive was Shannon O'Brien's long-awaited return to the pitch.
Ecstatic to see the Young Lioness get on the scoresheet, the French Manager commended the players' positioning in the act, which allowed her the opportunity to fire Leicester in front.
"I think what allowed her to score was her positioning," Miquel mentioned. "When there's a low cross, we want the opposite winger to be at the end of it in case it goes through everyone.
"It could have been Deanne [Rose], but with the change, it was Missy [Goodwin] and she did very well to not rush on the finish and get the goal so we are very happy for her and the team."
Heading into a month-long break, City can hold their head high, with a positive point which the Manager admitted has been a long time coming, as Leicester have struggled with injuries in the first part of the season.
Hoping to have players return in the New Year, Miquel spoke about the squad's mentality to never give in, and keep believing in the process, even when times looked tough.
Celebrating a first point against Chelsea.
She added: "It's a big win for me but the players also, because we have not been rewarded. We've had a lot of trouble with injury; we've won only one game but even the games we've lost, a lot have been 1-0.
"We did well with the draw against Liverpool, and apart from the loss to Man City, we've taken few goals so it's hard to end up so low in the table, considering all the challenges we've had. But no one at the Club has stopped working or believing in the project.
"I knew it was a hard league, and I can confirm it is, but that's a good thing as I think it means no one is too far away. With a few points, you can climb back up.
"So now we have to reflect on what we can improve for the second phase, and make sure that all those little details that were short and not in our favour turn into points."
