Sammy Kaczmar, Simone Sherwood and Crista Chetcuti-Ganado all found the net in a tightly contested affair at LCFC Training Ground on Wednesday afternoon.

The action fell in favour of the Foxes early on, after beating Durham and Southampton to reach the final four, when Beau King played in Kaczmar who fired low under the ‘keeper to finish.

Simone Sherwood scored and played 60 minutes in the fixture.

Before 20 minutes had been played, our lead doubled. Sherwood latched on to a King cross to the edge of the box and placed a left-footed effort into the back of the Black Cats' net.

Becoming more involved in Amandine Miquel’s First Team squad, the talented midfielder got a solid 60 minutes of action and certainly played her part in the Under-21s' success.

Our surge for goals continued throughout the rest of the half, with Kaczmar coming close once again, but to no avail; still, the lead belonged to Leicester at the halfway stage.

Sunderland, refusing to lay down and be beaten, came out for the second period with fresh energy and had chances in and around the box, finally halving the deficit in the 72nd minute.

Eva Bewicke bundled home a goal for the visitors in Seagrave after a teasing corner fell loose in the box for the defender to prod home from close range.

In what was a nervy final 15 minutes, relief ensued around the City bench when Chetcuti-Ganado confirmed the win in injury-time, after Kaczmar’s touch left the forward free to etch herself on the scoresheet.

One game now stands in the way of our Academy lifting the League Cup.
