We Can Challenge The Big Teams, Says Barnes

Academy graduate Harvey Barnes says Leicester City have proved they can go head-to-head with the Premier League’s elite sides as preparations continue for this weekend’s visit to Wembley Stadium.

Third-placed Tottenham Hotspur are the opposition as Claude Puel’s men round off a series of tricky fixtures that has seen them draw 1-1 at title challengers Liverpool and suffer a slender defeat at the hands of in-form Manchester United.

Barnes started the clash with the Red Devils to add to his impressive displays against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, as he played a role in City’s second strike against the latter.

Having already played for City at Wembley during their 5-4 reverse last term, Barnes is hopeful for another thriller in the capital – as long as the points head back to Leicester with the Foxes.

Harvey Barnes hauled Leicester City level after his shot found the back of the net via Conor Coady in the 4-3 loss to Wolves.

“It was the last game of the season, so it was an entertaining game,” said Barnes of City’s last away fixture against Tottenham. “We’re expecting a bit of the same, but hopefully with the result going the other way for us.

“It would be nice to go down there and take something out of the game. You’ve seen already against the big teams, we’ve put in some great performances and got results, so we’ll be hoping to replicate that.

“For us I think it is going to be taking each game as it comes and hopefully getting the wins, but more importantly just finishing as high up the table as we can. I think there has always got to be little targets set within the team and we’ll keep on pushing.”

The 21-year-old’s target for the remainder of the season is to continue his involvement with the first team, having started two of the last four Premier League games since returning from his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.

I think it’s every young boy’s dream to play in the Premier League, so for me to get the opportunity to do that is obviously great and I’m just hoping I can take my chance and help the team out.

“As well as getting wins against other teams in the league, when you play against the top six, especially as a young player, it’s what you dream of,” added City’s No.19.

“Especially when you step out at the away games at massive stadiums, I think it is all the experiences that you have been working for, so to get the opportunity to play against Spurs at Wembley would be great and to top it off with a result would be even better.
