City, whose four-match winning run came to an end last Friday, head for the capital on Saturday to tackle Manuel Pellegrini’s 11th-placed West Ham United (3pm BST kick-off).

Under Rodgers’ management, Leicester have hit the net on 12 occasions in six matches, conceding just six, propelling them up to seventh in the Premier League standings.

With four fixtures of the 2018/19 campaign to go, Rodgers has set his talented Foxes squad with the challenge of finishing as high as possible in the table.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Rodgers said: “We’re trying to produce a team that’s cohesive and plays in a structure which allows the talents and strengths of our game.

Rodgers: We're Trying To Create Something

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers addressed the national media on Thursday ahead of Saturday's trip to West Ham United.

“It’s very, very early on in our time together, but I’ve been delighted with how the players have looked to respond to how we’ve asked them to play.

“There’s going to be bumps along the road, like our first game (vs. Watford). It was interesting to watch from that perspective and in the last game, (vs. Newcastle), we played too slowly.

“We’ll understand over the time the difference between being patient and slow.

“You can play with patience, but you have to play with a real speed and intensity to unlock that type of team that sits low.

“Each day that understanding and the idea of how we want to work has been processed by the players and it’s a great credit to them, because they want to learn.

“My job is to utilise the strengths of them, which is their speed and their quality and then try and bring it all together into that team structure.

There’s a really good mentality in the team, the spirit’s very strong and, of course, when you play away from home you have to have that resilience and that spirit as well as quality.

“It’s very early on, but the players are showing each week that there’s good signs.”

City’s form on the road has been particularly impressive this season and has them sixth in the Premier League’s ‘away league table’.

Rodgers says that’s largely down to the squad’s resilience and the 46-year-old believes that mentality bodes well for the future.

“It’s a huge credit to the players, because they have a resilience,” he added.

“That’s something that’s clear since I’ve come in, the games that we’ve played away from home, and obviously earlier on in the season as well.

“There’s a really good mentality in the team, the spirit’s very strong and, of course, when you play away from home, you have to have that resilience and that spirit as well as quality.

“They have that fight and we’ve shown that in the games that we’ve played so far and the players have shown that in a number of games earlier on.”
