Vardy: Momentum For Next Season

A victory for Leicester City on Sunday will help to set a positive tone for the start of the 2019/20 Premier League season, according to Jamie Vardy.

The Foxes conclude the campaign at King Power Stadium against Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea, who on Thursday, after 120 minutes of action, beat Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties at Stamford Bridge to book their spot in the UEFA Europa League Final.

City, meanwhile, head into the game having narrowly lost to Premier League leaders Manchester City on Monday, despite an impressive display at Etihad Stadium in which they were edged by a stunning strike from Vincent Kompany.

And while Leicester’s current season comes to an end this weekend, a triumph will stand them in good stead for what is set to be an exciting 2019/20 campaign.

“It’s like any other season,” said Vardy. “There are 38 games in a year, you don’t take your foot off the pedal, you want to keep winning as many games as possible and if we win on Sunday, it gives us that momentum obviously going into next season.

Vardy: We Can Hurt Any Team

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy previewed our final game of the season against Chelsea at King Power Stadium.

“It’s exciting times. We know how he (Brendan Rodgers) wants us to play and everyone has bought into it, so we’ll finish the game on Sunday hopefully with a performance and three points, have a little break and then come back to get right into the hard work again.”

While Chelsea were pushed all the way against their German opponents, Vardy does not believe their performance levels will drop.

“I don’t think it’ll affect it at all to be honest with you,” said Vardy. “I think they still need to get a win themselves to make sure they finish third.

“They’ll be doing exactly the same as us, wanting to finish as high as possible, so it should be a really good game.”

If we’re at our best, we know we can hurt anyone and it was a very close game [against Man City], but in the end it just wasn’t enough.

Encouraged by City’s performance in Manchester earlier this week, Vardy firmly believes Brendan Rodgers’ men have the ability to endanger any team in England’s top flight.

“We have confidence in every game,” he added. “If we’re at our best, we know we can hurt anyone and it was a very close game [against Man City], but in the end it just wasn’t enough.

“We held our heads high and we’ll make sure that we try and put that right this weekend and obviously get the points.”
