Çağlar Söyüncü

The Stats: Çağlar Söyüncü's Impact In Blue

Turkey defender Çağlar Söyüncü has been a regular presence for Leicester City this season and has been among the stand-out performers for the Foxes.
More on this story...

A key part of the meanest defence in the Premier League so far in 2019/20, Söyüncü's displays in blue have caught the eye since August, helping the Foxes keep five clean sheets.

After taking closer looks at the form of Jamie Vardy and Ricardo Pereira during the final international break of 2019, this time, we examine the numbers which define Söyüncü's performances.

Friday Fives: Çağlar Söyüncü

As part of a new feature on LCFC TV, Friday Fives takes a look at some of our stars' best moments so far in 2019/20, beginning with Çağlar Söyüncü.

The Foxes have deployed a more structured stratagem this season under Brendan Rodgers' management, exhibited by the volume of possession seen by the Club's defensive players.

Çağlar Söyüncü is City's highest pass-maker so far in 2019/20 and his figure of 835 is bettered by just three others in the overall Premier League charts.

Only Virgil van dijk (902), Jorginho (865) and Andrew Robertson (849) have completed more passes over the opening 12 matchdays in English football's top tier this term.

All four of Leicester's most common passers of the ball are defenders, too, with Jonny Evans (757), Ricardo Pereira (707) and Ben Chilwell (701) in the club's top four.

Çağlar Söyüncü vs. Crystal Palace

Çağlar Söyüncü's first goal for Leicester City put them in front against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Similarly to Çağlar Söyüncü's passing achievements, the Turkish centre-back also tops Leicester City's list of clearances made up until this point in the campaign.

The 23-year-old was cleared the danger on 66 occasions, a figure which represents the fifth-best in the league, behind Steve Cook (89), Tyrone Mings (84), Jan Bednarek (71) and John Egan (68).

Söyüncü's defensive colleagues - Jonny Evans (52), Ricardo Pereira (35) and Ben Chilwell (21) - are among the best LCFC clearance-makers, while Wilfred Ndidi also rates highly (23).

It is worth noting also that Söyüncü is comfortable in possession and regularly migrates the ball, making 997 touches this season, bettered only by six others in the Premier League.

Stearman's Foxes Picks

Richard Stearman has been impressed with Çağlar Söyüncü and Ben Chilwell amongst others this campaign.

Çağlar Söyüncü has added to his eight appearances in all competitions for the Foxes last season by playing in every single minute of the 2019/20 campaign.

The composure in which the former SC Freiburg defender has settled into becoming a valuable figure in Brendan Rodgers' first team squad has impressed many this term.

Only 39 players in the Premier League have replicated Söyüncü's feat of not missing any of the campaign so far, while he's joined by four Foxes on that list of ever-presents.

Ricardo Pereira, Jonny Evans, Kasper Schmeichel and Jamie Vardy have also been there for the ride, while Youri Tielemans has missed just seven minutes.
