- Brendan Rodgers reflects on Leicester City’s 2-0 Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion
- The Foxes earned their ninth top-flight victory of 2019/20 thanks to goals from Ayoze Pérez and Jamie Vardy
- The triumph will be analysed on Monday night’s Extra-Time show
The result sees Rodgers’ men retain second position in the top-flight rankings, and the Northern Irishman praised his players for the way they stood up to Brighton’s attack towards the end of the first half.
“It’s a difficult place to come,” Rodgers told LCFC TV. “You see their record here at home and how they’ve played and the teams they’ve beaten.
“It was an excellent victory for us. I think we started the game very well with good possession and Jamie [Vardy] had a chance and before that Ayo (Ayoze Pérez) had a chance at the back post, so we looked a real threat.
“We had opportunities to score, but in the last 10 minutes of the first half they came into it then. In that moment, we had to stay strong.
“We started well in the second half, and when you’re away from home in the Premier League, you’re never going to have it all your own way for every minute, so when you’re under that little bit of pressure, then you have to stay strong and defensively compact, and the team was.”
It was a brilliant three points for us, and fair play to the players, because they gave so much and I’m so happy for them.Brendan Rodgers LCFC TV
City’s first goal came just seconds after they defended a Brighton corner, as they countered up the other end to take the lead through Pérez.
“We played ourselves back into it and got the goal,” said Rodgers. “It was a great counter-attack goal.
“I thought from that, when we got the first goal, we scored another one, but we could have had more.
“It was a brilliant three points for us, and fair play to the players, because they gave so much and I’m so happy for them.”
