While the Foxes have already secured their second-best Premier League finish, a win over Ole Gunnar Solskjær's Red Devils would seal a return to the UEFA Champions League.

That final-day encounter will be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event in the United Kingdom as Brendan Rodgers' men look to sign off in 2019/20 with one final moment to savour.

Schmeichel, 33, believes a large part of City's success this year can be attributed to a 'proactive, high-energy' playing style deployed by Rodgers across his first full season at the Club.

"It’s something we talk a lot about, the identity of the Club," the Denmark stopper said. "You can see what we’re trying to do in our playing style, we’re trying to be proactive, high-energy team.

"We’ve shown it in large parts of the season and the start of any journey is going to include some inconsistencies, particularly when your squad is as young as ours is.

These are the games that you want to play in. You can see it in training. Everyone’s just looking forward to it. Everyone’s ready to go.

"It’s a matter of time and of building and I think we’ve had a really good season up to now and it can still end up being a great season for us."

City are now fully focused on ending the 2019/20 campaign on a high note and Schmeichel has noticed an excitement among his team-mates ahead of Sunday's clash.

One more win - adding to the 18 already secured across the season so far - could elevate the Foxes as high as third in the Premier League on the final day.

"If we’d have been offered this in pre-season, we’d have taken it, 100 per cent," he continued. "These are the games that you want to play in.

"You can see it in training. Everyone’s just looking forward to it. Everyone’s ready to go.

"When you look at our form over the whole season, we’re a young squad, there’s going to be inconsistencies, but we’re in an unbelievable situation.

"We can’t use form from previously to dictate what one game’s going to be. It’s basically a cup final for us.

"Look at the possibilities for us. That’s all we could possibly ask for. We don’t have the size and the finances to compete, on paper, with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

"But we are – so that’s a massive positive."
