Söyüncü Features In Turkey's Nations League Opener

Leicester City defender Çağlar Söyüncü earned his 29th cap for Turkey in a 1-0 defeat by Hungary in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday evening.

- Çağlar Söyüncü featured for Turkey in their UEFA Nations League opener on Thursday
- The Crescent-Stars were beaten 1-0 in Sivas by Hungary in Group 3
- Söyüncü has now made 29 appearances for his country
- Danny Ward was an unused substitute during a win for Wales in Finland

In his country's first competitive action since November, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Söyüncü started for the Crescent-Stars at Yeni 4 Eylül Stadyumu in Sivas.

Despite Turkey's impressive showing in UEFA European Championship qualifying last term, it was Hungary who threatened most for large spells.

Roland Sallai and Filip Holender both struck the woodwork for the visitors, while Uğurcan Çakır was also forced into a succession of essential saves for Turkey.

However, after the home side's skipper, Burak Yılmaz, went close for Şenol Güneş's men, Dominik Szoboszlai stunned Çakır with a magnificent free-kick on 80 minutes.

It leaves Turkey searching for their first points in Group 3 of the Nations League after only one game ahead of Sunday's visit to Belgrade to face Serbia (7:45pm kick-off).

Elsewhere on Thursday, Foxes goalkeeper Danny Ward was an unused substitute as Kieffer Moore secured a 1-0 success for Wales over Finland in Helsinki.

Check back into LCFC.com over the coming week for more on City's internationals - including potential action for James Justin (England Under-21s) on Friday.

All times BST.
