Barnes Talks Personal Form & Fulham Test

- Harvey Barnes is hoping to add more goals and assists to his 2020/21 tally over the coming weeks
- The Academy graduate has scored three times in all competitions this term
- This campaign, he has netted his first European goals for the Football Club, while also making his senior bow for England
- Barnes emphasises his side’s responsibility to take the game to Fulham during Monday’s Premier League clash at King Power Stadium

Barnes – an Academy graduate – has a direct style of play that is effective off both the left and right wing, and his form this campaign saw him earn a Three Lions debut by Gareth Southgate, while his value has also been emphasised by City manager Brendan Rodgers.

His enjoyment in playing for the Foxes has seen him flourish in an attacking role for City, and he added to his goals tally this term on Thursday, when he was on target in a 3-3 draw with SC Braga in Group G of the UEFA Europa League.

“As a whole, we’ve had a really good start to the season,” he said. “For me, I’ve really enjoyed playing, we’ve played some great football and some really good attacking bits.

“Of course, I’ve been happy, but I want to keep adding to that and keep adding more goals and assists to my game. I’ve definitely been happy, but I’m still looking to improve on that.

“It’s fun to go out and play. You know, going out onto the pitch, that there’s going to be opportunities – we’re going to play good football.”

Barnes believes City have displayed their adaptability under Rodgers this term, deploying a series of stratagems that have allowed them to address the threats of individual teams while also maintaining their own identity in games.

“This season, we’ve already played a few different formations, so it’s good to have been involved in a few different systems,” Barnes said.

“Whatever system we play, or however we approach the game, we want to score goals, we want to attack, and we want to create as many chances as we can. It’s always great going into a game knowing that.”

Leicester’s exciting Premier League campaign, following Thursday’s draw against SC Braga, continues on Monday when Fulham visit King Power Stadium in the early evening kick-off.

Barnes is able to reflect on the upcoming fixture with plenty of pride, too, having set up striker Jamie Vardy for his 100th goal for the Football Club during a 3-1 victory over the Cottagers in March 2019.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” he said. At home, it’s going to be down to us to take the game to them.

“You’ve seen they’ve had a tough start to the season, so they’re going to be desperate to get a result against us.

“For us, it’s going to be in our own hands to go and create that, and take that attacking game to them to go and score the goals.”
