The Foxes were edged 2-1 at King Power Stadium in the Premier League, and remain fourth in the table after accumulating 18 points from 10 matches.

Goals from Ademola Lookman and Ivan Cavaleiro – the latter a penalty kick awarded by VAR – saw the visiting side race into a 2-0 lead on Filbert Way.

And while Academy graduate Harvey Barnes scored his fifth goal of the season in all competitions, City could not find a decisive leveller in Leicester.

“I think there are one or two of the players that struggle with it (tiredness), you just see in their freshness,” Rodgers told LCFC TV.

“Naturally, we’re going to feel that, but of course, you still go into the game and look to perform as best we can.

“We rotate the team enough to make sure the team’s fresh, but tonight, we weren’t to our level.”

Barnes’ second goal in as many games gave City hope with four minutes plus stoppage time to play, and Rodgers was encouraged with the performances of the two wide players he introduced at the break.

I thought our outstanding player was Jonny Evans. He played like a man. Kasper [Schmeichel], he’s steady, he’s very focused in goal and plays like a man.

“It was a great swivel,” Rodgers said of Barnes’ strike. “Him and Cengo (Cengiz Ünder) I thought came in and gave us that impetus in running with the ball, so they were very good.

“Other than that, we played very young this evening.”
