Be At The Top Of Our Game, Says Morgan

Jonathan Morgan believes LCFC Women are well aware of the significance of Sunday's showdown with Durham as the division's top two sides go head-to-head at Maiden Castle Sports Park (12pm GMT kick-off).

- The FA Women's Championship battle will be a meeting of the league's top two teams
- Jonathan Morgan's pre-match conference with the media was held on Thursday afternoon
- He talked about the need to remain calm in order to come away from Durham with a positive result

Leicester and Durham will begin the day locked on 38 points at the top of the FA Women's Championship standings, separated by just goal difference, though the Wildcats have played a game more than City as the season draws towards its final few weeks.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, Morgan was full of praise for the way Durham have gone about their business this term, remaining unbeaten throughout 2020/21 and keeping more clean sheets than any other team.

The fixture against the Foxes' closest challengers is one that everyone within the group is looking forward to, LCFC Women's manager says.

"It's going to be a fantastic game," he enthused. "Hopefully it will be a good advert for the Championship and show two teams that are pushing to get to the WSL and the quality that we both possess.

We want to make sure that we're at the top of our game and we're ready for them. If we lose, the momentum goes to Durham, if Durham lose, momentum swings to us.

"Obviously, I'd like to come into the game with a bit more breathing space but Durham have been fantastic all year and somewhat gone under the radar with the types of results they've been getting.

"They are a team full of people that want to graft and want to fight for each other and if you look at them, you can see there's a definite team cohesion out there. They've got a very strong squad.

"They've not been flashy but what they are is a tremendously hard working team and they work for each other from minute one to minute 90.

"We've just got to match that by working hard and keep our feet grounded as we have done in every single game so far this season, to have a chance of beating them. We're treating Durham no different to any other team.

"We want to make sure that we're at the top of our game and we're ready for them. If we lose, the momentum goes to Durham, if Durham lose, momentum swings to us and it impacts how you play future games.

"It's definitely a massive game from a mentality point of view as well. We're on a nine-game winning streak in the league and that bodes well."

London Bees 0 LCFC Women 7

Extended highlights from The Hive Stadium as LCFC Women sealed a ninth successive league victory in stunning fashion against London Bees.

Coming into the game off the back of a 7-0 away win against London Bees last weekend, Morgan is pleased with how preparations for the clash have gone for the Foxes. He believes it is now all about keeping calm in order to be able to play their natural game.

He explained: "The girls have worked tremendously hard this week, they're looking good, they're looking sharp. We've focused on quite a few things tactically to be ready for the game and all I know is that we won't be going there to underestimate them, but we are going there to get three points.

"There's been a lot of positive reinforcement. We've had a couple of meetings as a squad this week to keep people's feet on the ground. We wanted to put the London Bees game behind us last week.

"That was obviously a tremendous victory, but we didn't want to read too much into it. We scored quite a few goals but we wanted to make sure that the girls are aware that Durham are different.

"We need to go in and impose ourselves on that game. I always say every week, it's about remaining humble and doing our jobs to the best of our ability and we can come out with a positive result."
