Signed from ZNK Pomurje in her native Slovenia, the 19-year-old became the Foxes’ eighth signing as a top-flight outfit, linking up with her new team-mates two games into the Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.

The midfielder, a Slovenia Under-19s international, expressed her delight at arriving in England’s premier women’s division and is now focused on trying to assist her new side climb the WSL table and achieve their objectives.

“It’s just an incredible feeling signing for Leicester City,” Zajmi said in her first interview with LCFC TV since joining the Club. “It’s always been a dream of mine to play abroad. To sign my first professional contract is just incredible.

I think I have good vision and I’m a skilful player, I’ll have to work on my pace and my physical strength, but I think that when I’m stronger I can help the team get wins.

“I’ve been following some of the clubs and I think women’s football, especially in England, is developing really fast and I think I’ll have a great chance to improve myself here.

“I think I have good vision and I’m a skilful player, I’ll have to work on my pace and my physical strength, but I think that when I’m stronger I can help the team get wins.”

Reflecting on her career to date, which includes winning the Zenska Liga in 2020/21 and playing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the 19-year-old hopes to draw on that experience and use it to support her adaptation into English football.

“I’ve been playing in Slovenia for 13 years for one club called Pomurje,” she explained. “We won everything that is possible, so we did a lot of good things back at my previous club.

An Incredible Feeling, Says Zajmi

Midfielder Luana Zajmi speaks to LCFC TV for the first time since signing for LCFC Women this week.

“And we qualified for the Champions League, which was really nice. It was a nice experience to compete and I learned a lot.”

Zajmi believes the welcoming environment she has been brought into at Belvoir Drive will also aid her development as a player. She is now in contention to be in the squad for City’s trip to face West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

“The girls have been really nice,” she added. “I’m just trying to do my best in training and I’m finally here. The intensity is a lot higher here and it wasn’t that easy [to adjust], but hopefully the team will get to know me better and I’ll settle in well.

“I’m looking forward to it, I can’t wait to get on the pitch and to start playing for Leicester City.”
