Rodgers: An Excellent Performance

The Foxes took the lead through James Maddison early on, but their advantage was cut out by Joshua King's penalty on the half-hour. A brace from Jamie Vardy put City back in the ascendancy and, while Emmanuel Dennis got one back, Ademola Lookman's strike handed the hosts the points.

After the restart, a light sprinkling of snow had become considerably heavier, blanketing the King Power Stadium pitch and reducing visibility for both sets of players. Speaking afterwards, Rodgers was nevertheless delighted by the application of his squad, who move into the Premier League's top half.

"It was an excellent performance considering the conditions," Rodgers told LCFC TV. "The players played the conditions really well. It was difficult to see from the side and I think for the players in the game, but the concentration from both sets of players was very good. We stayed focused and got the job done.

That was the challenge today. Winning after winning is so important so the feeling is good. We can improve, of course, but it was always important, especially after a European game, to get the win at home and we did that.

"We made a good start in the game again, which was important. We scored very good goals. Madders made those forward, penetrating runs and finished really well. The confidence starts from there. They were good goals and it was good team ethic. We worked very hard.

"In the second half, we let them back into it again at 3-2, we made a mistake, but Timothy [Castagne’s] reaction to that showed you his mentality. He fractured his cheekbone in the summer, but he still went in aggressive in the challenge and, from that, we win the ball.

"You can see the mentality of the team with the fourth goal. Overall, I’m very, very pleased with the result, it’s a very good performance, but there’s still elements in there where we can be better, of course. It’s a very important three points."

Securing back-to-back victories, after Thursday's 3-1 success over Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Europa League, could be a big moment for the Foxes, who are looking to build momentum going into December. To pick up three points against a Watford side renowned for goals also pleased Rodgers.

"It was very important," the Northern Irishman added. "That was the challenge today. Winning after winning is so important so the feeling is good. We can improve, of course, but it was always important, especially after a European game, to get the win at home and we did that.

"We were playing against a team that have shown they can score goals. They got five away from home at Everton, they beat Manchester United in their last game, scoring four goals, so we know they’re dangerous. In the moments we had to [defend], we were excellent.

"We pressed it well, we forced errors and mistakes, and then there were other moments where we had to fight and stay together. They did that."
