Rodgers’ Fitness Update: Vardy, Maddison & Barnes

Manager Brendan Rodgers says Leicester City could be without striker Jamie Vardy for the ‘next three to four weeks’ with a hamstring injury.

- Jamie Vardy could be out for three to four weeks, according to manager Brendan Rodgers
- Harvey Barnes trained with the squad on Thursday after a spell out
- James Maddison is also available after being substituted against Liverpool on Tuesday

Striker Vardy played through a hamstring issue during Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool, having previously suffered from the same problem that kept him out of the clash with Manchester City on Boxing Day.

In-form No.10 James Maddison, meanwhile, played just under 70 minutes against the Reds, but is fit for the weekend's Premier League clash with Norwich City at King Power Stadium, while Harvey Barnes could also be back in the matchday squad.

“Jamie will be out for the weekend and James Maddison should be fine,” he told the media. “It depends, it could be the next three to four weeks (for Jamie Vardy).

"He wasn’t sure whether it was that (in a challenge with Joël Matip) or he felt the pain then. He ran on and soldiered on which he wanted to do, but the scan has shown up as that (a hamstring injury) so it could be three to four weeks.

“Harvey’s just come back, obviously having a period out. He’s trained his first training session today with the squad which is good news.”

However, alongside Vardy, the Foxes will also be without a number of first team players, including those that have already been out for a significant period.

The manager said: “Ryan Bertrand will probably be next week before he’s back in training, but all the others are still at least three weeks away.

“JJ (James Justin), we just need to get some games into him, he was due to play a game and he was off for 10 days or so, so he’s going to be a few weeks away. He’s back training, which is great news for us.

Wesley Fofana, we’re looking into February for him.”

The upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament will also see several City stars head away on international duty, with Rodgers confirming when they will depart.

He added: "They will be going after the weekend. They’ll be available for Saturday’s game and then they will be going."
