Grant, Zajmi & Wood Feature For Loan Clubs

Three LCFC Women loanees have been in action for their respective clubs across England and Scotland over the past few weeks.

- Forward Abbi Grant has registered two assists in four games for Glasgow City
- Luana Zajmi made her Blackburn Rovers bow in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup
- Youngster Lucy Wood scored on her third appearance for MK Dons in the National League
- Jess Camwell has joined fellow third-tier side Derby County until the end of the season

Abbi Grant registered an assist from the bench on her latest Glasgow City debut, setting up Clare Shine for the opener after her half-time introduction, to help the Scottish Women’s Premier League side record a 2-0 victory over Hearts.

The Scotland forward, who is enjoying a third spell with Glasgow, joined in January on a loan deal until the end of the season and, after also appearing from the bench in the 70th minute of a 3-1 defeat at Rangers, featured in a 2-0 home victory over Celtic, playing the final 12 minutes at Petershill Park. Glasgow are now second in the SWPL, two points behind Rangers.

Her first start arrived in the Scottish Cup last weekend, setting up the first goal of a comprehensive 6-0 success at home to Hamilton Academical which seals a spot in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Leicester loanee Luana Zajmi made her Blackburn Rovers bow in the Lancashire side’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup defeat away to Durham at the end of January, starting the fourth-round tie before picking up an injury and being replaced by former Fox Annabel Blanchard on 54 minutes.

After missing Blackburn’s league fixture away at Sheffield United last weekend, the 19-year-old Slovenian-born midfielder will look to make her FA Women’s Championship debut when Rovers return to action following the international break.

Gemma Donnelly’s team tackle Lewes in a rearranged fixture at Sir Tom Finney Stadium on Sunday 27 February (12pm kick-off), looking to improve their 10th-place position in the second-tier table.

Lucy Wood
Lucy Wood

Lucy Wood has been a regular starter for LCFC Women’s Academy Team during the first half of the season.

Elsewhere, youngster Lucy Wood has made three appearances for MK Dons in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division since joining the club on loan for the remainder of 2021/22.

Making her debut from the bench in the 1-0 away win over Hounslow, Wood was then handed a first senior start on 6 February as the Dons battled to hold league leaders Ipswich Town to a 0-0 draw at home.

She started again when Charlie Bill’s side travelled to face Cardiff City last weekend, with the Welsh outfit racing into a two-goal lead before Wood netted her first goal for the club to reduce the arrears.

The visitors then equalised but went on to lose 3-2 and sit in 12th position in the 14-team standings, having collected 12 points in 17 matches so far this campaign as they look to steer clear of the relegation zone.

The Dons’ next league outing is a home game held at Stadium MK against Chichester & Selsey on Sunday 27 February (2pm kick-off).

Also in the National League, midfielder Jess Camwell could make her debut for Northern Premier Division side Derby County when they face Loughborough Lightning at Mickleover Sports Club this Sunday (2pm kick-off).

The 18-year-old, who started for the Foxes in the Continental Tyres League Cup last month, joined Derby on loan until the end of the season earlier this week. The Ewe Rams are currently third in the third-tier table, on 32 points from their 15 games played, sitting two points below league leaders Fylde.

Both Wood and Camwell signed for their respective loan clubs on a dual registration basis and remain eligible to play in fixtures for LCFC Women’s WSL Academy Team.
