- James Maddison added a fine free-kick of his own, scoring the Club’s 800th Premier League goal

The Belgium international had not featured for nearly three months due to a thigh issue, but a first start produced a Goal of the Season contender as he lashed a delicious attempt into the top corner.

James Maddison then followed up with a sublime free-kick as the Blue Army were rewarded with a fourth-straight home victory across all competitions. Castagne was thrilled to deliver in front of the Club’s fans, who he labelled as ‘amazing’ in his post-match analysis of the triumph.

He told LCFC TV: “It was the best return possible, we got the win and a good goal, so I’m very happy. To be honest, I wanted to shoot fast because I saw the guy trying to block it and I saw the trajectory and I knew it was in.

“I think you can see on my face that I was as surprised as the rest of the team. It was great, great support today, even when I came off the pitch. To see the support was amazing.”

Not since 28 December had Castagne featured for City. That time period equated to missing 14 matches in all competitions, and it was clear the Foxes received a significant boost after welcoming back into the XI.

Even in training, I don’t think I’ve scored goals like that. I’m not known for my shots. It’s best one, I think.

“I’ve been training for a week now with the team,” he said. “Obviously, with the away game and stuff, we couldn’t do too much, so I didn’t expect I would start today, but I was happy to start and I was blowing a bit at half-time, so that’s why I came off.

“Even in training, I don’t think I’ve scored goals like that. I’m not known for my shots. It’s my best one, I think.”

Moments before his excellent goal, Castagne was urged to shoot by the Blue Army – and the Belgium full-back granted their wish, adding: “I heard it once, and I was like: ‘No, no, I can’t do that now!’ It’s good to hear them do that, so we’ll see next time!”
