The France youth international, an Emirates FA Cup winner during his maiden campaign with the Foxes, sustained a fractured fibula injury during a pre-season victory over Villarreal last August. With his first year in Leicester coinciding with COVID-19 guidelines, that was on the second time Fofana played on home soil in front of the Blue Army.

He scored on his return in the UEFA Europa Conference League at Rennes late last month and was typically impressive in the 1-1 Premier League draw at Manchester United last weekend. If selected for Thursday's European tie against PSV, it will be Fofana's first competitive home outing in 319 days.

"It’s a big game and they are a great side," he told CITY Matchday Magazine. "They’ve done well in the Champions League and Europa League in the past. They’re a talented side, with good players, so it will be a very difficult game, but we are a good side and will do everything we can to win the game.

I can’t wait to be back at the stadium playing in front of our fans, as last season we had COVID so I didn’t get that opportunity. I’m a little nervous, but I’m also excited and can’t wait to get out there.

"If we win the first game, we go to them with a lot more confidence, because we will have an advantage over them. However, both games are important, as we went into the game at Rennes 2-0 up, and the return leg was very close, so it’s important we don’t take our foot off the gas.

"It’s true, though, it always better to win the first leg as it gives you that advantage. I’m so excited to be back [playing on Filbert Way], as I played my first game back [after my injury] away at Rennes.

"I can’t wait to be back at the stadium playing in front of our fans, as last season we had COVID so I didn’t get that opportunity. I’m a little nervous, but I’m also excited and can’t wait to get out there."

Fofana also reflected on his decision to commit his future to the Club. The former Saint-Étienne centre-back says he is eager to play his part in what promises to be an exciting future for Leicester City.

Fofana's Goal Ultimately Enough For City In Rennes

Wesley Fofana's first goal for the Club, in his return from injury, helps Leicester City to an aggregate victory over Rennes.

"Yes, I’ve signed a contract to 2027 because I believe in this Club," he explained. "I think that we can achieve great things. It’s true that this season hasn’t been as exceptional as other seasons, but we can turn things around. We won the FA Cup last season, so that shows that we can win trophies.

"The Club lifted the Premier League in 2015/16 which shows the Club has ambition and I hope, and I want, to win more silverware here."
