In a month where the Club unveiled a statue of Khun Vichai outside King Power Stadium, the VS Foundation will continue to uphold a key part of our former Chairman’s legacy by supporting key charitable causes in our communities.

Chief Executive Susan Whelan explained: “From the moment we confirmed that a statue of Khun Vichai was to be commissioned, we were approached by a great number of supporters that wanted to contribute financially to its development. It was an incredible gesture from our fans that showed the impact Khun Vichai had on their football club and their communities.

“While provision had already been made for the commissioning of the statue itself, we wanted to be able to channel that goodwill and generosity from our fans appropriately, through the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation.

“As a cause Khun Vichai gave to personally and one with which the Foundation and the Club share a long-standing relationship, the Leicester Hospitals Charity is the perfect beneficiary for such gestures. We hope telling their story during the month can help raise both much needed funds and awareness for an important campaign.”

Supporters can donate to the VS Foundation HERE while further opportunities to contribute to the cause will be highlighted at this month’s home fixture against Aston Villa (23 April), with funds also raised during the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace. You can also text VSF followed by your donation amount to 70085 to give that amount, e.g. VSF£5 to 70085.

The 42-cot neonatal unit in Leicester specialises in care of babies in the first 28 days of their life and who have either been born early, have low weight or who have a medical condition that requires specialised treatment.

Once they arrive at the neonatal unit, babies are cared for in specially designed incubators, which create and maintain the optimal environment for babies, and allows for consistent and close monitoring. Often babies who are born prematurely are kept in incubators to allow for additional development of their organs, while incubators also reduce the chance of an infection.

As a specialist neonatal service, Leicester Hospitals Charity want to provide the very best care for babies using the latest equipment. However, babies are currently being cared for with outdated equipment, as 36 of the 42 neonatal incubators are over 10 years old.

They wish to replace older incubators and upgrade them with the very latest model that encompasses state of the art technology to give babies the best chance of survival.

The new models have been designed to provide excellent care to the complex and ever-changing needs of neonates, providing excellent thermoregulation to maintain a stable body temperature; large touch screens to allow for close and consistent monitoring of the babies’ environment; compatibility with X-ray machines and advanced antimicrobial features to help prevent infections.

Each state of the art incubator costs £30,000 – a small price to pay for a piece of equipment that will help to save the lives of thousands of babies each year.

To lend your support to the cause, donate to the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation HERE during the month of April, where all funds raised will be supplied to the Leicester Hospitals Charity’s Neonatal Incubator Appeal.

The Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation has taken its fundraising total to over £2m in recent seasons, with money raised for several important causes, including the funding of a renovation of Leicester Royal Infirmary’s Children’s Outpatient Ward and life-saving equipment desperately needed by the Children’s Intensive Care Unit.

Additionally, the Foundation has supported Leicester Hospitals Charity, LOROS, Rainbows Children’s Hospice and Leicestershire Children’s Holiday Centre.
