Leicester City In The Community Set Environmental Focus After Tree Planting Event

Leicester City in the Community staff, participants and volunteers all assisted Leicester City Council’s tree planting efforts.

- Leicester City in the Community helped Leicester City Council to plant trees as part of the climate change initiative
- Between 400 and 500 trees were planted by volunteers, participants and staff at Western Park
- Eco Foxes is a new project launched by the Club's charitable arm
- Leicester City in the Community will be holding a Green Action Month in May

Leicester’s Western Park has seen several hundred trees planted thanks to Leicester City’s charitable arm, who worked alongside Leicester City Council and the climate change initiative.

This event marked the beginning of Leicester City in the Community’s push to raise awareness and do their part for the environment.

Called Eco Foxes; Blue By Choice, Green By Nature, LCitC will look at promoting environmental sustainability under the following themes: energy and utilities, transport, food, procurement and waste, nature and education.

Luke Miller, Health and Wellbeing Coach at Leicester City in the Community, discussed how these events will go far in the future.

Getting our staff and participants down; it creates a real community sense of helping each other and helping the environment.

“Something that we are really passionate about at Leicester City in the Community is helping the environment, and helping environmental sustainability,” he said.

“Getting our staff and participants down; it creates a real community sense of helping each other and helping the environment.

“So for me, to get everyone together to come down and do these events will really help the environment.”

Events focused on environment sustainability will become a more regular occurrence, starting with an action month in May.

Green Action Month will see Leicester City in the Community showcase awareness, provide education and highlight steps on how we can all become more environmentally sustainable and create a greener future.

Sandra Palmer is one of the volunteers who has helped to plant the trees as part of the initiative.

Meanwhile, Sandra Palmer, a Silver Foxes participant who volunteered to plant trees, explained why a focus on the environment is so important.

“I think it’s brilliant,” claimed Sandra. “I said earlier ‘how long is this going to take to grow?' because I can’t wait to bring my grandchildren back in a few years time and show them what their grandma was planting.

“For the future, we have all got to do something.”
