Leicester City in the Community participants were in for a treat on the final day of the Easter Football Camp programme with the visit of multiple LCFC Women players. Taking place in a girl-only Football Camp at Belvoir Drive, participants had a rare opportunity to work alongside a professional footballer.

Running a specialist goalkeeper camp, Sophie Harris recruited the aid of fellow ‘keeper Demi Lambourne to give the children expert goalkeeping tips. Then, defenders Esmee De Graaf, Sam Tierney and midfielder Shannon O’Brien paid a visit to all 115 aspiring female footballers in attendance.

Speaking during lunch, ‘keeper Harris discussed how the coaches and venue makes for a perfect day.

“I’ve seen how well Leicester City in the Community Football Camps have been ran already,” she said. “It was just the conversation of how we can put it together.

The goalkeepers did pre-season right here so to be able to give them exactly the same experience as what we have, and the facilities here are great, to be able to put a camp on, it can give them that inspiration of what they can work towards.

“I know there is increasing amounts of opportunities for girls but, for goalkeepers, there's not that many. With the number of girls that are here today, hopefully one day we can get that as just a goalkeeping camp.

“The goalkeepers did pre-season right here so to be able to give them exactly the same experience as what we have, and the facilities here are great, to be able to put a camp on, it can give them that inspiration of what they can work towards.”

De Graaf, O’Brien and Tierney also took time to see each group within the regular Football Camps. All five players subsequently signed merchandise and posed for pictures with the excited participants.

LCFC Women goalkeeper Sophie Harris passed on tips and took part in fun sessions at Belvoir Drive.

Ella, who snapped up a space to join Harris’s expert camp, commented on an inspirational afternoon in Aylestone.

“It’s very exciting, and they’re very inspiring as well and very understanding,” said Ella. “It will make me more hopeful that when I’m older I might become a professional footballer. It also makes me feel very hopeful because they’ve trained here and they’ve succeeded.”
