Thomas Hoping For One Final Victory For The Fans

One last target – potentially finishing eighth in the Premier League – is top of Luke Thomas' priorities ahead of the final game of the 2021/22 season.

It's been a campaign like few others for Leicester City this term, with a run to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League taking the amount of games contested up to 58 before the visit of Southampton to King Power Stadium on the final day this Sunday (4pm kick-off).

The Foxes have had to battle against scarcely believable injury problems at times, coupled with fixture disruption caused by COVID-19-related postponements over the winter months. Despite all that, only a 2-1 aggregate defeat by Roma prevented City from reaching a first-ever European showpiece.

Thursday's commendable 1-1 draw at Chelsea was preceded by successive victories over Norwich City and Watford – with Leicester finding the net nine times in those three outings. They could now secure the Club's joint-fourth highest Premier League finish if results go their way at the weekend.

Thomas Eager To Finish On A High

Luke Thomas speaks to LCFC TV about the importance of earning another three points in Sunday's season finale against Southampton.

"I think it’s been a difficult season so far, but obviously we’re in really good form at the minute," Academy graduate Thomas told LCFC TV after helping his side seal a point at Stamford Bridge. "We’ve been getting some good results lately and we could still push and finish eighth.

"If you said to us at the start of the season, we’d get semi-finals in Europe and finish eighth, I think the majority of people would have been really happy with that. It’s been a very positive season for myself, with the amount of games that I’ve had.

"I’ve played over 30 games I think this season, so I’m really happy with that. Hopefully, next season, I can get many more chances.

"For me, it’s just about working as hard as I possibly can. No matter who I’m up against, I’ll believe in myself and [on Thursday it was] Hakim Ziyech and Reece James, two world-class players, but for me, if I work hard and be confident in myself, I know I can deal with them."

Fine Maddison Effort In Leicester's Draw At Chelsea

The two goals from Stamford Bridge - including a brilliant hit from James Maddison - in Leicester City's 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

Finishing on a high-note and toasting an eighth consecutive season of Premier League football – the Club's longest stretch in the division since its reformation in 1992 – is the focus for Thomas. He says everyone is determined to give the Blue Army something to celebrate upon the final whistle on Sunday.

"We’re a group with a lot of togetherness and, for us, it is about finishing as high in the table as we possibly can," he explained. "If we get a win on Sunday, then we can look at it as a positive season really and then take it into next season.

"That’s always what you want, good results at the end of a season, and then take it into the next season and start it well. We can go into next season with a lot of confidence, I think it’s been a really positive result [on Thursday night] and hopefully on Sunday we can get the three points."
