The Leicester City Development Squad midfielder played 90 minutes for the 11th time this term on Monday evening as the travelling Foxes youngsters were on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline against Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s.

The 18-year-old told LCFC TV in his post-match interview that City failed to adapt to the conditions at Aggborough Stadium, where Harvey Griffiths, Nathan Fraser and Connor Ronan all found the net for Wolves.

“It was very disappointing,” he admitted. “We don’t think we played at our best, the whole team, we got in there and we’re disappointed. But these things happen. Hopefully on Friday we go again and can work on the mistakes.

Every experience I get with them (the first team) is a good one. You learn loads when you’re with them and hopefully I can get more opportunities in the future.

“It was a bit difficult in the rain. You might have to change your game here and there, maybe send it a bit longer to see if they can deal with a wet ball slipping in behind. But at the end of the day, we didn’t really deal with it very well ourselves.”

The England youth international, who has missed just two games for the Under-21s across all competitions in 2022/23, made the first team matchday squad on several occasions last term, including both legs of the UEFA Europa Conference League Quarter-Final, and is striving for further chances to impress should similar opportunities arise again.

“Every experience I get with them is a good one," Braybrooke revealed. "Especially the European quarter-final. You learn loads when you’re with them and hopefully I can get more opportunities in the future.

“There’s higher intensity and quality. If your quality isn’t there, then the punishment you’ll get for it is going to be a goal. Also, just how much three points means.

Developing All The Time, Says Braybrooke

Words from Sammy Braybrooke after the Leicester City Development Squad were beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s in Premier League 2.

“You want to learn all the time and there’s probably some of the best in the Premier League right now to learn off. There’s a lot to learn from them and it’s definitely valuable to ask them questions and try to improve your game.

“That’s what I always try and do really, just focus on my game, keep performing every week at a high level, try to bring people with me as much as I can. Hopefully I’ll reap the rewards in the future.”

The youngster confirmed that there is already a clear focus on Friday’s game against Crystal Palace Under-21s within the group, as City get back on the road to tackle the Eagles in a 7pm GMT kick-off at Selhurst Park.

Braybrooke added: “It’s what you want to do really, play in the Premier League stadiums, preferably in a first team game, but any chance you get to play in a stadium like that, it’s a great opportunity and we’ll be looking to hopefully go and get a good result there.”
