Ndidi: We Got The Job Done

Wilfred Ndidi believes Leicester City's positivity was a big reason behind their 3-0 success over Newport County in the Carabao Cup.

- James Justin and Jamie Vardy (2) scored the goals at King Power Stadium
- Wilfred Ndidi played 74 minutes as he returns from injury
- The Nigeria midfielder spoke to LCFC TV following full-time on Filbert Way

James Justin's superb opener got things started for the Foxes before the half-time break, while a trademark brace from Jamie Vardy, on his 400th appearance for the Club, capped off a solid evening's work. Leicester will discover their fourth-round opponents on Thursday evening.

The game also marked the latest phase of Ndidi's return from a hamstring injury, with a start on Filbert Way - before being replaced by debutant Sammy Braybrooke - adding to 20 minutes from the bench in Saturday's 2-0 Premier League win at Everton. Speaking at full-time, the Nigeria international offered an insight into the players' view of the game.

"We were really positive, coupled with the fact that we got three goals and a clean sheet," City's No.25 told LCFC TV.

The Goals - Justin & Vardy On Target In Newport Win

Enjoy the goals from Leicester City's 3-0 victory over Newport County in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

"We were just waiting for the opportunities. We knew they would play long balls and be looking for throw-ins. We were just waiting for the moment and then, when we got the moment, it actually opened up the game for more goals.

"The first goal was before the end of the first half, which is really good, and the manager told us to keep going. We scored one goal and they were going to try to come out and push up. That opened up the whole pitch for us to score more goals, which actually happened.

"Jamie doesn’t stop scoring with half a chance. I’m delighted he scored two goals – he’s learning from me!"

A hero of Leicester's 2021 FA Cup triumph, Ndidi sees no reason why City can't lift more silverware in the Carabao Cup this term.

"Nothing is impossible," he added. "We’ve been there before in the FA Cup. It’s very possible because we have that quality in the team. If we can stay focused and look forward to the next one, I think it’s really possible.

"We’re moving onto the next game now. This is what we needed, a clean sheet and more goals, just for the confidence for the next one. It keeps the team really high with confidence. We’ll see what comes out of that one."
