Danish Delight For The Foxes – Fact Filing Victor Kristiansen

Leicester City have made their first move in the January transfer window with defender Victor Kristiansen joining from FC Copenhagen on a five-and-a-half-year-deal.
More on this story...

Born in the Danish capital of Copenhagen on 16 December, 2002, Victor came through the ranks at FC Copenhagen, graduating from the Danish Superliga club’s youth academy.

His senior bow followed on 4 November, 2020, in a Danish Cup Third Round victory over Avarta, ahead of his first league appearance later that month, coming on as a substitute during their 3-1 victory against SönderjyskE.

The 5ft 11in left-back suitably impressed enough to earn a contract extension the following month, just after celebrating his 18th birthday. The 2020/21 season would end with Kristiansen featuring in the final four games of the regular campaign, including a maiden start.

That led to involvement in the Superligaen Championship Round, playing 90 minutes in six consecutive fixtures, contributing three assists in three consecutive matches as FC Copenhagen finished third.

The Danish defender has agreed a contract until the summer of 2028.

The following season, the 20-year-old would help his side claim the Superligaen title, making 19 league appearances and registering four assists, before injury limited him to just two appearances during the successful Championship Round as the Lions finished three points ahead of FC Midtjylland.

Qualification for the newly-formed UEFA Europa Conference League also enabled Kristiansen to debut in European competition across 2021/22, supporting a run to the last-16 of the competition, eventually beaten by PSV Eindhoven over two legs, who would then meet Leicester in the next round.

Also a Danish youth international, Kristiansen moved up the age groups from Under-16s to Under-21s, featuring in UEFA EURO U21 Championships qualifying – and a senior call-up may not be too far away.

A first look around LCFC Training Ground for the new Foxes recruit.

The 2022/23 season brought UEFA Championship League participation. Kristiansen started both qualifiers and then all six group games, as Copenhagen drew against Manchester City, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund, though it was not enough to progress.

Fittingly, the defender’s final appearance in a Copenhagen shirt brought his first goal, as part of a 2-0 success away at Aarhus on 13 November, just prior to the FIFA World Cup break.

A further 14 Superligaen appearances across the first half of this campaign secured six victories and four clean sheets for his side ahead of signing for the Foxes this week.
