The Turkish international agreed a season-long loan switch to King Power Stadium on Saturday and referenced a desire to play in England as a key factor behind deciding to make Leicester his new home.

The 23-year-old attacker arrives with a clear aim of promotion, outlining his ambitions in an exclusive first interview for the Club inside LCFC Training Ground.

“I’m so excited to be here,” he told us. “It was amazing yesterday. When I arrived, the way I was greeted by the Club and the staff here, they were all very friendly, the people were lovely to me, so I’m very happy to be here and I’m so happy that I made the right decision.

“I’m excited to get on that pitch and meet with the supporters. I’m going to do my best to do well for the Club and grow physically and mentally and be consistent. I’m hoping to have a great season ahead.

Akgün will wear the No.29 shirt for the Foxes.

“Leicester has done it before; they’ve won the Premier League. Now my first aim is obviously to help my team-mates here and win the league first and then win other trophies. That’s what I want to do and I can’t wait.”

His first move away from Turkey, he already feels settled, and brings plenty of winning experience, claiming the Süper Lig title with his boyhood club last term, following two loans spells at fellow top-flight side Adana Demirspor.

The fourth Turkish international to play for City, he follows Muzzy Izzet, Çağlar Söyüncü and Cengiz Ünder in representing the Foxes as well as the Crescent-Stars.

The winger explained: “All young players dream about playing for their national team, so I’ve achieved that dream of mine. I’ve played and I want to play for many more years. I’m a very proud person for that.

The 23-year-old has five international caps to his name.

“Once I found out that Leicester City was interested, me and my manager said, ‘let’s go for it’, because I’ve heard so much about Leicester City.

“I know Çağlar [Söyüncü] and Cengiz [Ünder]. Also when I was at Adana Demirspor, the captain was Gökhan Inler who played for Leicester City and told me great things about the team and the Club, so I’m very proud to be here.

“All players, especially from Turkey, their dream would be to play abroad in Europe and this is my first experience. I grew up with Galatasaray, I’ve been there all my career. They’re a massive club and always doing great in Europe, with a lot of great supporters all around the world. The supporters are always passionate.

“All the players coming through the youth teams, they would have one thing in mind - that’s to play for the first team and win trophies and I’ve done that. I was very lucky to do it. I’ve been bringing luck to every team I’ve played for, so I’m hoping that we’ll win the league here.”
