Howard Nets Last-Gasp Equaliser For Scotland

Sophie Howard netted a last-minute equaliser against Janice Cayman's Belgium while three other LCFC Women players featured on Tuesday's international stage.

With less than a week until Leicester commence their 2023/24 Barclays Women's Super League campaign, City's stars had one last chance to represent their country in September's international break before joining back up with the rest of Willie Kirk's side for Sunday's domestic fixture against Bristol City.

Defender Howard was one Fox to start on Tuesday evening as she lined up for Scotland against Belgium at Hampden Park, with summer signing Cayman starting the UEFA Women's Nations League fixture from the bench, but it was the Red Flames to strike first in Glasgow.

Kassandra Missipo opened the scoring 52 minutes into the game, just before Cayman's introduction, but the headlines were stolen in the dying stages when none other than Leicester's own Howard levelled things up with the last kick, or in this case header, of the match.

Sophie Howard equalised for Scotland in the final stages against Belgium.

With one last long ball forward into the box from 'keeper Lee Gibson, it was the No.15 who rose highest between two Belgian defenders to flick the ball into the back of the net to ensure Scotland's first point in League A Group 1, while Belgium remain top with four.

The only other Fox to start for their country was forward Jutta Rantala, who joined the Club from Swedish Damallsvenskan outfit Vittsjö GIK this summer, as Finland took on Romania.

Days after picking up a convincing win against Slovakia, when the Leicester striker scored the second goal, Finland made it two wins from two with a 1-0 win over Romania thanks to a single goal from Eveliina Summanen at Stadionul Arcul de Triumf.

The victory sees Rantala's side remain at the summit of League B Group 2 with maximum points prior to their next match in October's break.

Closer to home, Josie Green made a late appearance in Wales' 5-1 loss to Denmark, as the Dragons continue to look for their first point in League A Group 3 of the Nations League, while winger Ava Baker was also involved from the bench for the Young Lionesses who drew 3-3 with Germany at St. George's Park.
