After also featuring in Saturday's 3-0 triumph over Benin in Uyo, Super Eagles interim manager Augustine Eguavoen once again trusted Leicester City's No.6 from the start for the second game of their Group D campaign.

The 27-year-old, who made his international debut back in 2015, has become a vital player for Nigeria, making over half a century of appearances for his home nation. Tuesday's outing at Rwanda's Amahoro National Stadium was his 60th cap.

Although there may have been some frustration for Ndidi and his international team-mates, missing out on the three points, the one earned was nevertheless enough to put Eguavoen's side top of their qualifying pool with four points.

It's been a solid start to AFCON qualifying for the three-time winners, who will regroup for a double-header of clashes with Libya during the next international break in October.

Academy graduate Kasey McAteer, on the other hand, also saw action from the bench for the Republic of Ireland. A 74th-minute substitute, the 22-year-old was making his second appearance for the Boys In Green, although his side were on the wrong side of a 2-0 home defeat by Greece in the UEFA Nations League. McAteer also featured against England, making his debut, on Saturday.

City's representation around the globe came to an end overnight, meanwhile, as Bobby De Cordova-Reid started for Jamaica in their 2-1 away victory over Honduras, which places the Reggae Boyz top of CONCACAF Nations League A Group 2.

The Foxes attacker played 90 minutes at Estadio José de la Paz Herrera Uclés as Jamaica maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign, while Nicaragua are their next Nations League opponents on Thursday 10 October.
