Ranieri Provides Kante Update
- Kanté missed City’s fixture against West Bromwich Albion due to a hamstring injury, but completed Friday’s training session
- Ranieri explained how he is aware of Watford’s talented squad
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri provided an update on the fitness of N’Golo Kanté ahead of Saturday evening’s Barclays Premier League fixture at Watford.
Kanté missed Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion at King Power Stadium after picking up a hamstring injury against Norwich City.
The midfielder was initially expected to miss Saturday’s fixture at Vicarage Road, but Ranieri revealed he took part in training on Friday and will be assessed ahead of the clash.
“N’Golo [Kanté] today (Friday) made all the training session which was good,” Ranieri said. “Tomorrow I decide. He could play. Kasper [Schmeichel] is okay.
“They (Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez) show good attitude during the training sessions and they will start. If I see them a little tired, I will change. There are so many players that want to play and want to fight.”
Saturday’s opponents have caught the eye of many this campaign since returning to the Premier League, not least the forward combination of Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, who have between them scored 22 times in the league this campaign.
Ranieri said of Watford: “[They are] fantastic and they were unlucky against [Manchester] United because before [Juan] Mata made a masterpiece, there was two corners. They were unbelievable and they could have won the match.
“It’s a good team, good manager and a good club. I know very well that family (who own Watford) and I’m sure year after year they will build a very good team. It’s not only [Troy] Deeney and [Odion] Ighalo. There are so many good players in the squad.”
