Liam Already Hungry For Moore

But City’s promising young defender is determined not to make his current run in the first team a temporary arrangement.

A graduate of the productive Leicester City Academy, 20-year-old Liam spent the first half of last season out on loan with League 2 Bradford City, returning in January and featuring twice for the Foxes by the end of the campaign.

But injuries to more senior colleagues have opened the door for the youngster from Barrow-Upon-Soar in the early stages of the new season and Liam has stepped through it with remarkable maturity.

Impressive in the 4-0 win at Torquay in the Capital One Cup, he was outstanding in Saturday’s npower Championship opener against Peterborough, forming a robust partnership alongside skipper Wes Morgan at the heart of the back four.

And having experienced the thrill of life in the first team on his first appearance at King Power Stadium, Liam now wants to find the consistency that will keep him in the starting eleven.

“I had an indication on Friday that I would be starting through the set-piece drills and spent most of Friday night trying to get to grips with it,” Liam admitted after Saturday’s game.

“On my home debut, on the opening game of the season, in front of a big crowd, to get a 2-0 win – I couldn’t be happier.

“It’s amazing. I’ve had two other league appearances and a third in the cup the other night, but they’ve all been away so it was a relief to play on our home patch for the first time, get the result and play well.

“It’s a massive season for me, I’m 20 this year and I’ve said before that I want to break through at Leicester. I’ve managed to play a few games now, but I know I’ve got to be consistent to stay in the team.

“Playing alongside Wes helps me a lot, I’m learning new things every day and I know if I make a positional error I’m going to get help from the players around me.

“I’m full of confidence at the minute and I’m just happy to be playing.”

Liam certainly wasn’t short on support for his King Power Stadium bow, with the Moore family out in force to get behind him on his big day.

And having spent the last 14 years striving to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional footballer, he was delighted to be able to share the experience with them.

He laughed: “I was struggling to get enough tickets for them! There were about 10 that turned up in the end, but I could probably have doubled that if I’d have had the tickets!

“My mum and dad know how hard I’ve worked since I was a youngster, I spoke to them both on the phone on Saturday morning.

“I’ve wanted to do this since I was six or seven, so to do it today in front of my family – I couldn’t be prouder at the minute.”
