Shakespeare's Manchester United Fitness Update

Craig Shakespeare has provided a fitness update on eight of his Leicester City players as preparations continue to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday (5:30pm kick-off).
More on this story...

- Wes Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Danny Drinkwater and Nampalys Mendy have trained fully
- Harry Maguire and Kelechi Iheanacho are being monitored by the Club's staff
- Robert Huth and Vicente Iborra are set to miss Saturday's clash at Manchester United

Harry Maguire picked up a knock on his knee during City’s 4-1 Carabao Cup success at Sheffield United on Tuesday night and he completed a half-session in training on Thursday.

The 24-year-old defender, recently called up for England, was taken off late on as a precaution at his former club and will be monitored on Friday before Shakespeare selects his starting XI.

Defensive colleague Robert Huth, meanwhile, is continuing his recovering from a foot injury while Vicente Iborra (groin) is also set to miss out in Manchester.

Iheanacho was all smiles at Belvoir Drive.

Danny Drinkwater (thigh), Wes Morgan (back), Jamie Vardy (ankle) and Nampalys Mendy (ankle) have all trained fully this week.

Kelechi Iheanacho (toe), on the other hand, is training well at Belvoir Drive but Shakespeare has stressed caution, not wanting to rush his recovery.

“Harry hasn’t trained fully today as a precaution,” he said on Thursday afternoon.

“I am hoping there is nothing long-term there and it keeps him out of Saturday. It was because of the tackle in the first minute and he has had an adverse reaction to it 24 hours later.

Wes will be involved. He has trained the last couple of days. Hopefully we won’t get an adverse reaction tomorrow but he has trained fully today.

“Vardy is fine. He came off during the [Brighton] game. I think it was more of a nerve problem than a kick. It settled down overnight which allowed me to include him in the squad for Sheffield United.

“I thought it was the right thing to do in terms of saving him a bit. But he has trained the last couple of days no problem.

“Wes will be involved. He has trained the last couple of days. Hopefully we won’t get an adverse reaction tomorrow but he has trained fully today. I expect him to be fighting fit for Saturday.

“Kelechi is another one who has trained, which is pleasing. We just have to be mindful of how long and how we push him. Gradually he is getting back to full fitness.

The England striker trained on Thursday.

“Danny Drinkwater is training as well. The only one who has missed training is Robert Huth. We are taking it easy with him at the moment. He is sore in his foot so we have to be mindful that we are careful with him.

"Iborra is not training yet. I think it will be after the international break.

“Once we get over United, we have a couple of weeks and I am hoping we can up his fitness and get him out onto the grass. He hasn’t joined in with the squad yet.

“I am always trying to look on the positive side and say you will be back in one week when I know it probably will be two or three, really just to put some positivity into them.

“I know with Vicente he is disappointed at the moment but I am sure we will have him back sooner rather than later.

“Mendy hasn’t had any reaction so he is training fully. He is okay.”
