The Foxes went down to two second half strikes from substitutes Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini despite stifling José Mourinho’s men for more than 70 minutes.

Speaking to LCFC TV, Morgan, who handled the hosts’ threats well alongside Harry Maguire, preferred to look to the positives ahead of the international break.

“We had to do a lot of defending today,” the City captain said. "They had a lot of possession and we had to stay concentrated. For a lot of the game, we did exactly that.

Morgan: A Valiant Effort

Wes Morgan talks to LCFC TV after the Foxes' 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

“Man Utd are a fantastic team who have had a great start to the season. We expected to have to weather the storm at times and, on a the whole, we did that.

“It’s hard to take to concede from a set piece, especially after how we defended throughout the whole game.

“We couldn’t keep them out but it was a valiant effort from the boys. I don’t think a 2-0 loss is a fair reflection on the game.”

As is often the case in the Premier League, it was a match which was settled by fine margins and both Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy both had opportunities to score.

We felt the longer the game went, the better our chances would be.

While United had the majority of clear-cut chances, Morgan says City can take confidence from their performances so far this season, against a wide variety of opposition.

“They are going to create chances, that is what they are all about,” he added.

“We tried to soak up the pressure and hit them on the break, trying to create something like that.

“We felt the longer the game went, the better our chances would be. On the whole, we have to be proud of that performance. Man Utd are full of confidence right now.

“They are blowing teams away and we gave them a scare today I feel.

“It almost came off. When you’ve got the likes of Riyad and Vards [Vardy] on the pitch, it takes one moment of magic. We couldn’t find a way through today, but on another day who knows.

“You have to play them at some point. In the games we have played so far, we have played well so we’re full of confidence.”
