City are the visitors to Liberty Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off) in what promises to be another highly-competitive Premier League encounter.

Looking at Swansea’s start to the new campaign, Wathen said: “It’s been an up and down season to date. They obviously lost their top scorer [Fernando Llorente] and their best player [Gylfi Sigurðsson].

“The delay in those exits meant the replacements coming in didn’t arrive until the end of the transfer window. It’s taken a while for them to get up and running.

Training Exclusive: Swansea

The lads have been back on the training pitch this morning in preparation for Saturday's Premier League fixture against Swansea.

“Every time there has been a step forward, there have also been steps back. There have been disappointing performances, up until last week’s game against Huddersfield [a 2-0 victory].

“There is a lot of hope that the win could be the start of something and that it can kick-start their season.”

One player who has impressed so far this term for the Swans is Chelsea loan star Tammy Abraham, who has already hit the back of the net on several occasions.

They have kept a lot of clean sheets and there are good foundations in place.

“Abraham has been very much a bright spark with four goals in eight games,” Wathen added. “He is somebody who has a bright future in the game.

“You feel there is more to come from the likes of Renato Sanches, too, who joined on loan from Bayern Munich, rather surprisingly.

“They have kept a lot of clean sheets and there are good foundations in place.”
