City's Youngsters Seal Checkatrade Trophy Progress

- Leicester City's youngsters qualify for Round 2 of the Checkatrade Trophy
- The Foxes finish in second place in Northern Group A with four points
- Steve Beaglehole has praised his side's performances against Football League opposition
- The draw for Round 2 will be made at Wembley Stadium on Friday evening

The one point gained for drawing in 90 minutes, combined with Fleetwood Town’s 2-1 victory over Carlisle United on Wednesday, confirms City's spot as runners up in Northern Group A.

Steve Beaglehole's side had to wait 24 hours to discover their fate after missing out on a bonus point following a 4-2 penalty shoot-out defeat at Globe Arena.

The draw for Round Two of the competition will take place at Wembley Stadium ahead of England’s international friendly against world champions Germany on Friday evening.

Ties involving the 32 sides will be determined by a draw where the winner of each group will be drawn at home against a runner-up from the same region.

Back in August, City opened their campaign with a 3-0 loss at Fleetwood before Layton Ndukwu's strike booked a 1-0 success at Carlisle in October.

Ndukwu struck again at Morecambe, alongside a late header from Josh Knight, to help Beaglehole’s side climb to second in their group, one point above third-place Carlisle.

“I’ve said before how immensely proud I am of the players for their effort this season,” Beaglehole told LCFC.com.

“We were disappointed with the Fleetwood result, they caused us big problems and we learned several lessons that night. Carlisle, however, was a terrific performance.

“I’ve said to the lads that if I were a Football League manager, the youth team I would least like to play against in Round 2 would be us after the start to the new season we have had.

“We’re seeing young, talented players coming through the ranks this season. Looking at recent results, we have several players who have a chance of playing for the first team.

“Things look good in terms of developing players for the Club. The group is fantastic. It has been a real pleasure to be around the players and the staff.”
