Jamie Vardy scored City’s first goal of the season last time out against Manchester United, but James Maddison and Demarai Gray could have both found the back of the net had they not have come up against an in-form David de Gea.

With that narrow loss now behind them, Puel’s men are looking forward to their first home fixture of the season – one that sees a Wolves side make the trip to Filbert Way on the back of a credible draw with Everton.

“We play at home and we need to perform and to get a good result at the end,” Puel said. “We need to bring the necessary confidence for the team and to find a good clinical edge.

Puel Hoping To Build On Opening Day Display

Claude Puel spoke at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wolves' visit to King Power Stadium.

“Manchester United were more clinical than us and we have to improve in this situation. I have a lot of confidence with my team because I think we worked very well in the transfer window with a good quality.

“We put in place a good balance in the team with a lot of quality and young, hungry players. All these things are very important for the future.

“I think we’ll make a good season. It’s just something about the beginning because we started without our international players in pre-season it was difficult to organise and improve together but step-by-step, we will find the good quality and good balance.”

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have a number of talented players in their ranks, with set-play specialist Rúben Neves impressing on his Premier League debut.

They continue with quality. It’s a team that try to play good football with a very good mentality and structure. It will be a tough game of course against a team with confidence.

The City boss said of Wolves: “I think it’s a team where the players are always the same, the same team, the same squad this season. They’re in good condition without a lot of international players. That’s a good thing for them.

“They continue with quality. It’s a team that try to play good football with a very good mentality and structure. It will be a tough game of course against a team with confidence.

“They’ll continue to play with the same qualities from the Championship. We are wary about their quality and mentality. It will be a tough game for us.”
