The Sileby Bowls Club, which was formed in 1939, has hosted county and national fixtures in the past but last year’s harsh winter left the green in a poor state.

A member of the club wrote to Leicester City to ask if they could help and with the proposed site of the Foxes’ new state-of-the-art training facility just two miles away, the Football Club’s Grounds Staff visited the green for a full assessment.

The green had fallen into disrepair following a year of poor weather conditions, but Leicester City’s Grounds Team will continue to provide advice and support on the maintenance of the green.

The Grounds Team, who have been nominated for the 2018 IOG SGL ‘Professional Football Grounds Team of the Year’, put together a renovation plan and began work to improve the green last week so that it will be ready for the new season, which begins in April.

Once the work has been completed, Leicester City’s Grounds Team will continue to provide advice and support on the maintenance of the green.

Leicester City’s new training centre will include facilities for the Club’s First Team, Development Squad and Academy setups, as well as provisions to support the Club’s community programme and its efforts to promote inclusion and sports participation throughout the region.

The centre will also include the UK’s first Sports Turf Academy which will be used to train up to 30 students across various sectors of the industry.

Leicester City are committed to being a positive presence in the community that we hope to eventually be a part of and look forward to making a genuine impact in the area.

Students will benefit from a multitude of learning opportunities whilst also offering support to local grassroots sports facilities.

John Ledwidge, Head Groundsman at Leicester City, said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our support to Sileby Bowls Club. Leicester City are committed to being a positive presence in the community that we hope to eventually be a part of and look forward to making a genuine impact in the area.”

During the summer, Filip Benković surprised the participants of LCFC Community Trust’s summer camp at Sileby JFC.

The Trust will continue to support grassroots football clubs in the Charnwood Borough as part of its Grassroots Initiative.
