Maguire's Anfield Pride

Harry Maguire believes Leicester City were unfortunate not to go further and defeat Premier League leaders Liverpool following their 1-1 draw at Anfield on Wednesday.

The England defender, 25, struck the equaliser for the Foxes in first half stoppage time to seal an impressive draw following Sadio Mané’s early opener for the Reds.

It is a result which means City have taken points off Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton and now Jürgen Klopp’s leaders this season ahead of Manchester United’s visit to Leicester on Sunday.

Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, Maguire said: “It’s a great point, it’s tough place to come, and they’re top team so it was a thoroughly deserved point.

“I think if we were a little bit more clinical at the start of the second half, where we were on top in the game, we probably had the better chances in the game, but we will take the point.”

Goals: Liverpool 1 Leicester City 1

Harry Maguire cancelled out Sadio Mane's opener as the Foxes held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Going behind early has been a source of frustration for the Foxes this season and Maguire admits it was disappointing once again, but also acknowledged his side’s fighting spirit to recover.

He added: “It was another sloppy start from ourselves, we can’t put our finger on it but we haven’t been good enough in the first 15 minutes.

“Conceding the early goal frequently... we speak about it and we work on it but I think it was a bit unlucky. It did take a few ricochets and fell straight into his (Mané’s) path.

“It was a good finish to be fair, but it was a great reaction and to score just before half-time was really important.”

Now with three goals to his name, this is Maguire’s most successful Premier League campaign in front of goal and the former Hull City defender said he hopes for more in the future.

A Thoroughly Deserved Point, Says Maguire

Harry Maguire says Leicester City fully deserved to claim a point from their Premier League encounter with Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.

“It fell to me nice,” he continued. “I broke the offside trap and managed to get a clean connection on it in difficult conditions and it found the bottom corner, so it’s pleasing to be on the scoresheet.

“It’s something I haven’t done for a few months now, it’s always in the back of my mind because I do like to score goals even though I’m a defender.

“I always try to see myself as a threat, maybe we should have gone for more in the second half, but we had a lot of chances at the start of the second half and it was a good performance.

“I’m trying to be more central in the box and be more of a threat in terms of the first contact that I can score goals from.

“It’s nice to score three, I’m not finished here, I’m looking for a couple more between now and the end of the season.”
