- Simpson says he will be looking out for the Foxes’ results next term
Simpson’s 132nd and final outing for the Foxes saw him introduced against Chelsea with 14 minutes to play, as he received a standing ovation from the King Power Stadium crowd for his efforts over the past five years.
The right-back leaves the Club as a Premier League champion and says City’s recent results are a reflection of what is to come next campaign.
“The fans have been amazing,” Simpson said during Sunday’s lap of appreciation. “Even here, they’re still staying out to support us and see us off. They’ve stuck by me from day one. I’ll never forget them.
“I’m a Leicester fan, it’s in my heart. This team is going to go on to bigger and better things and it’s great times ahead for the fans.
“They’ve already seen in the last couple of months, especially in the last three games, what to expect from the boys. I’ll be watching and supporting.”
Simpson, emotional at the full-time whistle after a goalless draw with Chelsea, thanked the Blue Army for their reception as he called time on his City career.
He added: “To get a reaction like that, and to get on the pitch, I’ve finished my career [on a high].
“To get some minutes today with the boys for the last time and to get a reaction like that, I never thought I’d come to a club and have an incredible five years and be welcomed and received like that.
“It’s an emotional day.”
