Following Monday's frustrating maiden 3-1 defeat by Germany in Udine, Italy, the Danes needed all three points from their second Group B fixture at Stadio Friuli on Thursday.
With Foxes 'keeper Iversen in the net, following his successful loan spell at Oldham Athletic last season, the Red-Whites reignited their bid to reach the competition's knockout phase.
Joakim Mæhle, who plays for Jupiler Pro League outfit Genk registered a brace for Iversen's side, either side of a consolation effort from SC Freiburg's Philipp Lienhart.
Before Mæhle's second, though, Iversen's services were called upon as the 21-year-old got down superbly to deny VfL Bochum defender Dominik Baumgartner from 12 yards.
In the latter moments, as Austria went in search of a late equaliser, it was in fact Denmark who found the net as FC Nordsjælland's Andreas Olsen completed a flowing counter-attack.
Ahead of Thursday's evening's encounter between Germany and Serbia, the Danes rose to second in Group ahead of their final outing on Sunday evening (8pm BST kick-off).
They are set to tackle Serbia at Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste, but may need results to go their way elsewhere to ensure guaranteed safe passage as group winners.
