With Taggart and Guppy back in the LCFC Radio studio at King Power Stadium, Elliott was positioned in the AMEX Stadium pressbox, where he was on commentary duties to call all of the action on the south coast.
Elliott, Taggart and Guppy all watched on on behalf of LCFC Radio, as Ayoze Pérez and Jamie Vardy both scored after the interval to make it five victories from their last five Premier League outings for the Foxes.
Worth the trip to the south coast
Matt Elliott said: “It’s a thing that’s happening quite regularly in life, isn't it? Leicester winning. They’re just going out now to join the celebrations. Brendan Rodgers is congratulating them, and also the opposition players. There is a touch of class about the manager and a touch of class about the team that he puts out there as well, and of course the Leicester City support. They travelled here on a horrible, dreary and murky day. But these days, it's worth making the effort to come and watch Leicester City. They were very impressive.”
Weathering the Brighton storm
Steve Guppy said: “It was about weathering those storms and Leicester certainly did that. We spoke at half-time about the importance of Leicester scoring when they were on top, but that didn't happen, and as a consequence, I think Brighton came out in the second half and they were the better team early on. Then there's the flip side now, as it's up to Brighton to score when they're on top and they didn't manage to do it.”
An end-to-end encounter
Gerry Taggart said: “They certainly grounded it out against Crystal Palace, and in a different context they did today. The game was literally end to end for the majority of that second period and there were so many gaps in midfield, but then fair play to Graham Potter because he changed it a bit.”
Committed Brighton
Steve Guppy said: “Leicester looked so tight at the back and they really restricted Brighton to few chances, but I have to say, the first goal from Leicester came from a Brighton corner. They committed loads of players forward and I get that a set play is a big chance, but they've left themselves wide open at the back you. It seemed to happen a number of occasions where you can't leave Jamie Vardy, of all the players, with that much space and time in those areas where you you're not tight to him.”
Different ways of winning
Matt Elliott said: “Leicester had the better opportunities and it was just food and water to Jamie Vardy. You know he would really punish them, and it could have been even worse, it could have ended up with a four or five nil if Leicester had been a little bit more clinical but, they are finding different ways to win which is obviously a good sign. It doesn't always go swimmingly and exactly to plan but you know in adversity, Leicester are able to react and come out on top.”
City playing their part
Gerry Taggart said: “With regards to the game that's going on later on tonight (Manchester City 2 Chelsea 1), you know that's a massive six pointer, or so to speak. Leicester had to make sure that they played their part, which they did. You have to say, you’ve got to credit Brighton, they were really impressive in the end.”
