The Foxes travel to Vicarage Road on Saturday to face Nigel Pearson's Hornets in both sides' 30th Premier League fixture of the 2019/20 season (12:30pm kick-off).

Schmeichel, 33, has played in all of City's top-flight fixtures so far this term and has been a key figure in a campaign which currently sees Brendan Rodgers' men occupy third place.

After sealing the Club's 16th league win at King Power Stadium, the Denmark international now believes it is imperative that Leicester build on that success with another victory.

"First and foremost, it was massive for us to win," Schmeichel said on Thursday. "We needed to win that game, get back to winning ways and build some momentum again.

"The way we did it will breed a lot of confidence. Getting Vards (Jamie Vardy) on the scoresheet was massive and a clean sheet was big in what was an important performance.

We’re trying to prepare as best as we can. We’re trying to concentrate and trying to look after each other so we’re ready for whatever happens.

"In terms of going into this week, it’s been a strange week for everyone (with the rise in cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) both in the UK and around the world).

"We’re trying to prepare as best as we can. We’re trying to concentrate and trying to look after each other so we’re ready for whatever happens."

Saturday's encounter with Watford will also be the first occasion in which former Foxes manager Pearson has come up against the Club in a competitive fixture.

Over two spells at King Power Stadium, Pearson won both the Championship and League 1 titles, while also securing City's Premier League status in 2015.

Discussing the 56-year-old's impact on him personally, Schmeichel added: "He was probably one of the most important managers for me in my career.

You can see, now that Nigel’s gone into Watford, what he’s done with the belief that he gives his players, I think that’s a massive plus for him.

"He was able to treat you in a way that got you to run through a brick wall for him, and that’s what he did with his players at Leicester.

"I’ve always spoken highly of him and will always have the utmost respect for him. His man management is second to none, he’s exceptional at that.

"Brendan is very similar to Nigel and they’re very, very good man managers. My manager for Denmark (Åge Hareide) is very, very similar.

"You can see, now that Nigel’s gone into Watford, what he’s done with the belief that he gives his players, I think that’s a massive plus for him."
