The Foxes remain fourth in the Premier League after 10 games, but were beaten on Filbert Way after first-half strikes from Ademola Lookman and Ivan Cavaleiro preceding Barnes' late effort.
Reflecting on the encounter at full-time, the Academy graduate, who netted his fifth goal of the season in the game, admitted the squad was disappointed by the outcome, which came in frustrating circumstances.
"It's a disappointing one for us," the 22-year-old England international told LCFC TV. "I think at half-time, we knew that the first half wasn't good enough.
"We'd got ourselves a big challenge, going into the second half. We did a bit better, but we're still not hitting the levels that we know we can.
"And then, obviously, a late goal [gave us] a bit of hope, but it was too late in the end. I think there's a lot of different aspects that lead to it, but ultimately, it's about not scoring at their end and conceding.
"At the minute, I think we're going behind in games too much. It's never easy when you do that."
Barnes believes fatigue could be a reason for City's performance against the Cottagers, but was keen not to use it as an excuse following the Club's 15th competitive outing this season.
"A little bit, but I don't think it's an excuse," he said, when asked if tired legs could be to blame. "I think there's been a lot of rotation within the squad.
"Of course, we've had the Europa League as well, but for us, I think everyone's going into each game as fresh as they can be and you know, I don't think that's a reason really.
"You do need to look back at it, you need to learn from the mistakes, but ultimately, you need to try and move on as quickly as you can and make sure you put it in the next game."
On Thursday, the Foxes will face Ukrainian outfit Zorya Luhansk at Slavutych Arena after securing qualification into the UEFA Europa League's Round of 32 last week, with top spot in Group G in their sights.
"I think it's a great opportunity to go and win and try and win the group there," Barnes continued, looking ahead to that 5:55pm GMT kick-off in Zaporizhya.
"That would be a real positive for us, so we're looking to bounce back. Obviously, [we can] go and win that game and then hopefully take that form into the league."
