Daniel Amartey and Papy Mendy were both on the winning side for their respective countries as qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup continued on Sunday.

- Daniel Amartey helped Ghana to a 1-0 victory at home to South Africa
- The Foxes defender played 90 minutes as Ghana finished top in Group G
- Papy Mendy started for Senegal in a 2-0 Group H success over Congo
- His country have also reached the next stage of FIFA World Cup qualifying

The Leicester City duo, who were both in action for the second time during this international window, enjoyed successes in the second stage of African qualifying.

Amartey played 90 minutes for Ghana as they defeated South Africa 1-0 at Cape Coast Sports Stadium following Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Ethiopia, in which Amartey also featured from start to finish.

André Ayew scored the only goal of this game, however, from the penalty spot, as Foxes defender Amartey helped his country earn a clean sheet and finish top of Group G on goal difference – ahead of second place South Africa – after collecting 13 points from six fixtures in their pool.

Ghana are now set to progress through to the next round of qualifying, as will Mendy and Senegal, who remained unbeaten throughout this stage of the competition.

A 2-0 victory over Congo, courtesy of an Ismalia Sarr brace in the first half at Stade Lat Dior, secured another three points for Les Lions de la Téranga, as they ended Group H on 16 points.

Mendy played 88 minutes of the encounter before being replaced by Moustapha Name, having featured from the bench in Thursday’s draw with Togo.
