The Ghanian made his first five appearances for City during the title-winning season of 2015/16, following his debut in the 1-0 home victory over Norwich City in February 2016. Four other outings - in wins over Watford, Crystal Palace and Sunderland, plus a 2-2 draw with West Ham United - allowed him to play a role in helping City win the league.

He featured much more heavily the following term, playing 35 times in all competitions for the Foxes. Amartey bagged his first goal in a City shirt in December of that season, scoring a late equaliser away at Stoke City to rescue a 2-2 draw.

In 2017/18, meanwhile, he made 15 appearances before picking up a hamstring problem against AFC Bournemouth in March, keeping him out for the remainder of the season. The following campaign, Amartey became a regular in the starting line-up, playing the first 10 games in all competitions before a long-term ankle injury in October 2018 put him on the sidelines once again.

Amartey has now played over 80 times for City and signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract in December 2018 to keep him at King Power Stadium until at least 2022. The defender's return to the pitch came in December 2019, in a 3-0 Leasing.com Trophy victory over Doncaster Rovers for the Club's Development Squad. In March 2021, on the other hand, he netted a late winner for the Foxes at Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

Amartey also started for Leicester as Brendan Rodgers' men won the FA Community Shield with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in August 2021. Later, he also starred for the Foxes in a run to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League - becoming a popular figure with the Blue Army.

Amartey started out his career playing for Ghanian side International Allies before his move to Europe. In May 2013, Amartey netted his first goal for Swedish outfit Djurgårdens IF in the Svenska Cupen Final, which his side lost on penalties against IFK Göteborg.

Daniel then impressed in Danish football after arriving in the capital in July 2014 for a fee of 2.5M. He played a key role as Copenhagen finished second in the Superliga to qualify for the UEFA Europa League during his first season with the club.

Amartey has featured a number of times for his country at senior level, including his first Africa Cup of Nations appearances in 2015.

He played in all of the Black Stars’ group games as they finished tournament runners-up. He also represented Ghana at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, starting every game on the way to a fourth placed finish.

And his impressive performances led to him being named in the CAF Team of the Tournament. Further international involvement came in 2017/18, as starred for Ghana in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He then also featured at the 2021 tournament, although Ghana were eliminated in the group stage.
