- Portugal and Korea Republic both progress from Group H

Foxes centre-back Amartey was in from the off at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, starting his third game of the tournament, but was unable to aid Ghana's qualification bid.

During a frantic first half, André Ayew missed a 21st minute penalty and the chance to hand the Black Stars an early lead after Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet took down Mohammed Kudus in the box.

That spot-kick miss would prove costly as Giorgian De Arrascaeta managed to head the South American side ahead just five minutes later.

Uruguay's No.10 was not done there, adding his second soon after the half-hour mark, again assisted by Luis Suárez, to double La Celeste's advantage.

Amartey clears the ball away under pressure from Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez.

Likely to need only a draw to progress, Otto Addo's side pushed forward in the second half, but to no avail, finishing fourth in Group H, on three points, following one win and two losses.

Korea Republic's dramatic 2-1 victory over Portugal in the group's other game allowed the Asian side to qualify in second place, on goals scored, sending Uruguay out of the competition too.

Next up, the only two Leicester City players left in the World Cup - James Maddison and Papy Mendy - could go head-to-head on Sunday evening, as England face Senegal in the last-16 (7pm GMT kick-off).
