Goals from Bobby Clark, Ben Doak (2), Billy Koumetio, Max Woltman, Layton Stewart and a Chituru Odunze own goal were the difference as Kian Pennant's equaliser for Leicester's Under-21s was cancelled out at Liverpool Academy.
Arriving to Merseyside, there was only one change to the starting line-up that lost out in a narrow defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening, with Logan Briggs dropping to the bench while goalscorer Kian Pennant was called up to the XI.
On a cold afternoon, it was the hosts who started strongest, taking the lead less than five minutes in. As the right winger weaved his way to the goal line, the ball was pulled back to Clark, who was in the right position to curl an effort beyond the reach of Odunze, to give his side the lead.
Moments later Liverpool looked to be in again when striker Mateusz Musiaowski won the ball from the Leicester back line, before playing in Harvey Blair, but Odunze reacted well to claim the ball and relieve any danger.
The quick start to the game continued when, like a flash, Leicester were level. In practically their first attack of the game, Wanya Marcal-Madivadua tested Marcelo Pitaluga in the hosts' net, but the 'keeper couldn't keep hold of the ball, which bobbled right before his attempted catch.
As the Liverpool shot-stopper was left helpless on the ground, Kian Pennant was on hand to tap in from close range, to bring the scores back level, with less than 10 minutes played.
After a dramatic opening period, the game looked to settle, and it was the travelling Foxes to see the next opportunity. A free-kick from Marcal-Madivadua was met well by the head of Tawanda Maswanhise, but the directed header was claimed by Pitaluga in the Liverpool net.
At the other end, Liverpool came closest when a City player almost turned the ball into their own goal. Captain Dominic Corness whipped a dangerous cross into the six-yard box, and Bayli Spencer-Adams didn't know much about the chance when his header whistled past Odunze's post and behind for a corner.
Seconds later, the home side were threatening again when Clark and Blair linked up on the left wing before the latter delivered a low cross into the box, but thankfully for Leicester, Doak saw the ball flash past his outstretched leg.
Less than five minutes before the break, Doak found himself running at Odunze again, but as the No.7 looked to fire his side in front, the American 'keeper did well to make himself big and deflect an effort over the bar.
Unfortunately, the save proved ineffective as Doak would score from the resulting set-piece, as the ball fell to the player lurking at the back post.
Sadly for City, any points would look out of reach by half-time when seconds before the whistle, Doak forced a third goal. Cutting in from the right wing, the tricky winger drilled a low effort towards goal, but luck wasn't running in favour of the travelling side, as the ball hit the post before it ricocheted off Odunze, giving the hosts a two-goal lead.
Coach Ben Petty made a substitution during the interval to inspire a comeback, as Brandon Cover was brought on to replace Paul Appiah in a change of formation, as they attempted to play more front-footed.
Cover looked to have an immediate impact when he tried to supply Maswanhise with a chance minutes from the restart, but the pass to the forward was a little heavy and the Zimbabwean dragged his effort wide of the goal.
Just as the Foxes looked to get back into the game, Doak carried on his impressive form and this time, did claim his second of the match, when he arrived at the back post to turn in a low cross.
Fifteen minutes later, the Reds had a fifth as the tallest player on the park, Koumetio, headed home a Corness corner to give his side a substantial lead.
With 10 minutes to go, Leicester's heads dropped as Liverpool added a sixth when a good save from Odunze played the ball into the path of Woltman, who fired into an empty net.
A seventh was added in the final stages as Stewart was played in behind and found the net with a right-footed finish past the Leicester 'keeper, rounding off a miserable afternoon for the side from Filbert Way.
To the relief of City's ears, the final whistle was eventually blown, as Liverpool would use the points to climb to third in the standings. With a key game against Blackburn Rovers up next for the Foxes, Petty will need to get this side back firing again in their bid for survival.

The defeat to Liverpool leaves the Foxes 14th in Premier League 2 Division 1, currently five points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the space above them.
